Ranking the Top 25 of The Office Characters

Ranking the Top 25 of The Office Characters
The Office is probably my favorite Television Show of all time. It has remarkable Producers, Writers, and Directors, and is so funny, emotional, and flat out awesome. All of the characters are unique and funny in there own way, and today I am going to rank 25 of the main The Office characters. Keep in mind, this does not include Todd Packer, David Wallace, DeAngelo Vickers, Robert Lipton, or Karen Filippelli. I didn't find these characters as important in the plot of the show, so they were not included. I also didn't include Mose, Dwight's strange cousin. He is one of the funniest characters in the show, but he was not included. Without further ado, here is my ranking of the 25 The Office Characters!

25. Robert California
Most of The Office characters are funny, and have one special trait about them that makes them funny. But this is one of the few characters that just sucks. James Spader is is a great actor, and should have been a good fit for Robert California. Earlier in his time in the show, he was mysterious, and not a bad character. But eventually, the writers just went a little chaotic. He became extremely creepy, and was a horrible manager, and very strange. A terrible addition in the fun-loving Office.
24. Gabe Lewis
When Sabre absorbed Dunder Mifflin, the first character from Sabre was Gabe. At first, he was a dorky guy, who wasn't that bad of a character. But later on he just got so socially awkward, and was a total pain in the butt for everyone. He was that one kid in the class who was the biggest tattletale of all time. And later on, he was just plain creepy, and very weird to Erin, his ex-girlfriend. A very strange, awkward character.
23. Jan Levinson
Earlier in the show, Jan was a good character to be Michael's boss, confront him. But later on when she started dating him, she became obsessed with him, and very creepy. She was probably the worst match for him, and absolutely a terrible person. Some of these characters are good in the beginning, but turn strange, or aren't as interesting near the end, or middle of the series.
22. Roy Anderson
In the first couple of seasons, the viewers are supposed to hate Roy. He is probably the main antagonist of The Office. We are supposed to dislike him. He is the wrong fit for Pam, and a pretty big jerk. Later on, he is cool, and kind to everybody. He knows he made a few mistakes. He does end up getting married, and has a happy ending. He just isn't very interesting, and the horrible fit for Pam.
21. Clark Green
There is nothing necessarily wrong with Clark Green, but there also isn't anything good about him. He is probably one of the most boring characters in the entire show, and is only added for the final season. He is just there to react to the humor of the main characters. He is also pretty weird, and the few times he gets into play, he isn't very interesting.
20. Nellie Bertram
I saw two sides of Nellie Bertram. One, a funny, sassy character who is kind to her coworker and has a deep inspiration to be an adopting mother. But two, a total jerk to Andy Bernard, and the most stubborn character on the show. She refused to give Andy his job back after flat out just sitting in his Managers Office. It was absolutely ridiculous. As much as I want to forget about it, I just can't.
19. Pete Miller
I've watched The Office a total of three times, and I remember the first time I watched it, I was really disappointed that Erin broke up with Andy for a new character, who wasn't funny, or entertaining. The second and third time, however, I realized that Andy was just a total jerk to Erin, and that Pete was the perfect fit for her. He was very kind, and considerate of her thoughts and feelings. He wasn't necessarily funny, or interesting, but a great fit for Erin.
18. Holly Flax
From here on down, I don't dislike any of the office characters. It is just really hard for me to rank Holly. She came in the later seasons, and was the perfect fit for Michael Scott. But then she also took Michael away from us. She was a funny character, but basically just a more mature, less funny Michael, so she didn't really work for me. But I am really glad that Michael finally found the love of his life in Holly Flax.
17. Erin Hannon
I've always thought Erin was a nice character, and has that loving doofus-like personality. She is basically a less funnier Kevin. She is kind, considerate, and very nice to everyone. She was just never very interesting to me. Later in the seasons, she became more of a main character, and the show was focused a lot around her relationship with Andy. She has a lame character arc. A wonderful person, just boring and not needed.
16. Phyllis Lapin
I really can't explain enough how special and awesome each of these characters are heading on forward, some are just better and more interesting than others. So it was hard for me to put Phyllis this low, but there are just better characters out there. Phyllis has that kind grandma tone that is really nice but can also be really weird sometimes, but she is still a beloved, and important character in the show.
15. Meredith Palmer
Another great thing about The Office is that each of the characters is unique in their own way. We always have someone in our lives like them, or maybe we are them. Meredith is one of those characters. While she does make us feel uncomfortable, with her inappropriate, strange, alcoholic ways, you can't help laughing at how weird and awkward she is. Not the funniest characters, but like Phyllis, still needed around the office.
14. Toby Flenderson
In every show, there is always a character who is hated on for no good reason. In The Office, its poor Toby. No one likes Toby, and he always seems to be the fault, for no good reason. His boss hates him, and it is honestly pretty hilarious how pathetic Toby can be, as rude as that sounds. Early in the show, only Michael hates him, but later on they change his character and is an uncomfortable, nerdy dude around the office. I loved him in the early seasons, I wish they hadn't changed him so much. Poor Toby.
13. Oscar Martinez
While almost everyone in The Office is goofy, dumb, or plain funny, you need to have some normal people to balance it all out. Oscar is here for that reason. He is that kind, very smart and quirky Latino, and is a great addition to the show. The episode with him revealing his homosexuality is one of the best in the show, especially his altercations with Michael. We need him around, but we obviously love the funnier characters better than those few normal characters to have logical reactions to the people in The Office.
12. Ryan Howard
Ryan is difficult for me to rank. He changed throughout the years. The first couple of seasons he was a quiet temp, and provided some hilarious reactions to the characters of The Office. The next seasons he was a cocky manager. Then he was an snotty young man whose life was falling apart. And finally he became just a really strange person, investing in his company, and just dorky and weird. I liked him much better earlier in the show, when he was there to be annoyed and react to Michael Scott.
11. Angela Martin
The perfect match for Dwight Schrute. The show needed Angela Martin. A
stereotypical, grouchy christian woman, very uptight with the rules. Even though her attitude was very annoying, Angela had some very funny moments in the show, with her constantly annoyed uptight character. She had a great character arc, and eventually at the end, she was kind, and friends with everyone in the office.
10. Stanley Hudson
Stanley was another one of those characters that we all have in our lives: That sassy, old doesn't care guy. He never tries, and is always tired. Always doing the famous crossword of his. Stanley is that exact character. While he can be rude and sassy, you can't help laughing at his continuous, tired, I don't care look. He had some of the best sassy moments in the show, whether he was screaming at Michael or what, he was hilarious.
9. Andy Bernard
A lot of people could be mad I put Andy this low, but I honestly don't really like him very much. He had a kiddish like humor in him that was funny, but not as funny as Michael Scott. He was mostly annoying at the beginning, but halfway around the show was when he was his best. He was funny, and kind, and always helping around the office. He delivered some of the best moments during that time. However, near the end of the show, he was just an absolute wreck, rude to everybody, especially Erin, and then being a total baby when she dumped him. It was uncomfortable to watch, and just bad writing. But at the very end, he was emotional and delivered in the final episode. So I put him here, above average.
8. Kelly Kapoor
Another iconic character we all have in our lives, Kelly brings the sassy, cheerful girl. Kelly is absolutely hilarious, the only reason she doesn't rank higher is because she wasn't as important as the next few characters in the show. Kelly continuous relationship with Ryan was also hilarious, her being always talkative and exciting, him being chill and quiet, not prepared for the intensity she would bring. Kelly was absolutely fantastic.
7. Darryl Philbin
In the first several seasons of the office, Darryl was just a side character in the warehouse, there to make fun of Michael and add some power to Roy vs Jim. But when he was moved to the Office in season six, it was awesome. Showing his friendship with all of the people in the office, he was one of the more normal characters in the office, but he still had some funny remarks, and was a great mix in the characters. Him leaving was one of the best moments in the show.
6. Creed Bratton
Creed is probably the sketchiest, creepiest character in the entire show, including Dwight. He always had the funniest one-liner in the episode, something about drugs, or the police, or murder, just something plain weird or strange. He had a funky ending, and was an essential bit of comedy in the show. He was super funny, just down here because he wasn't very important in the plot, and didn't have the most emotional moments.
5. Kevin Malone
Just like Creed, Kevin was one of the funniest characters in the entire show, the loving, dumb chubby friend. He only needed one line per episode to make the audience fall apart laughing. He was absolutely fantastic, and had probably the saddest and funniest part of the entire show, whenever he spilled his famous chili all over him. It was the saddest and funniest thing I have ever seen. Kevin was absolutely hilarious, and a fantastic addition to The Office.
T-2. Dwight Schrute
Dwight was one of the funniest characters in the show, with his strange, nerdy ways of life. He lives with his strange cousin Mose. He is a black belt in Karate. He owns a beet farm. He was absolutely hilarious, and the uphill battle to get with Angela forever, he had one of the best character arcs in the entire show. In the beginning, he had no compassion, but grew several friendships with the people of the office near the end. Rainn Wilson played Dwight fantastic, and he was amazing in this show.
T-2. Jim Halpert
Jim and Dwight were the perfect anti-duo. Jim's continuous pranks on Dwight were some of the best parts of the entire show, such as the stapler in the jello, or the desk in the bathroom, or Dwight's office supplies in the vending machine. Jim was very kind and had the best relationship with Pam of all time for TV couples (besides season 9...) and he was extremely funny, nice, and plain awesome for Dunder Mifflin, whether he was being a great salesman, boss, friend, or husband to Pam.
T-2. Pam Beasley
I know. It is a little cheap to have a three-way tie for second place. But you know what, I had to. My original ranking was Dwight at 4th, Jim at 3rd, and Pam at 2nd, but I had to make them all the same. They were all extremely important for the show. Pam was probably the nicest character throughout all nine seasons, it wasn't her fault to blame for the season 9 fight between her and Jim. She was artsy, quirky, and an absolute star for The Office. Her relationship with Jim and Michael was incredible. All three of these characters were fantastic, but only one could top them all.
1. Michael Scott
We all knew it would come down to this. Obviously, Michael Scott is the number one of The Office characters. His kid-like comedy is hilarious, and even though he starts out annoying, he gives great advice, is very kind and considerate, and only has one goal: To make as many friends as possible and start a family, which he eventually does with Holly Flax. He has the best character arch, and starts out hilarious and immature, and then a kind, wonderful manager of the best paper company in the world, Dunder Mifflin. Him leaving was one of the best episodes, and to me, the saddest. I flat out cried knowing we would lose Michael Scott, and the show did decline after he left. But Michael is an amazing character, and could go down as the best television character of all time, or at least in my opinion.

Thank you guys so much for reading, I had a lot of fun writing this post. The office is by far my favorite show of all time, the writing is excellent, the characters all are different and get there own moments, and play off of one another. Hopefully it is here to last, the best show of all time:
The Office.

    1. yeah I wrote it a while ago and I would probably put her above Meredith, Toby, Oscar, Erin, and probably Angela. Not Stanley though he's just too sassy
